"I support a constitutional amendment to define marriage between a man and woman. I was the co-author of the state — a law in Minnesota to define it and now we have courts jumping over this."
--Tim Pawlenty, at last night's GOP debate in New Hampshire, when asked about an Amendment to write descrimination against gay people into the United States Constitution. Such an amendment enjoyed support from all the candidates except Ron Paul who thinks government should get out of marriage.
"John, I do support a constitutional amendment on — on marriage between a man and a woman, but I would not be going into the states to overturn their state law."
--Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, apparently unaware that a federal constitutional amendment would overturn state law.
"Constitutional."
--Mitt Romney, when asked if he would support Constitutional amendment or state decision to overturn marriage equality. When Mitt ran for the Senate against Ted Kennedy in the 90s, he told a gay group that he would be a stronger senator for gay rights than Sen. Kennedy.
